A Birdy-full 24 Hours

Image

During this last 24 hours there has been so much birdlife in my backyard. I have seen countless Tui and Kereru, of course my regular Bellbird, a couple of fleeting Fantail visits as well as hearing Grey Warblers in the background, add hearing Morepork after dark to the mix and it feels like native birds are everywhere!

Yesterday evening I spotted this Tui (image above) in perfect position for me to get a lovely backlit shot of it as the sun fell behind the trees. I also found a Kaka drinking from my nectar feeders, they're always happy to pose for a few photos, I'm pretty sure this guy is smiling.

This Tui however didn't seem to want it's photo taken...

This morning there was a gathering of Tui in the trees surrounding my home and they were at full noise. It's hard to get one photo with lots of Tui as they're always around on the move and chasing each other around, I managed to get this photo of 4 of them in a tree behind my house, and the following photo of one taking off pretty close to me.

I hadn't had a visit from a Kereru all summer and today they made up for it, I have counted no less than 7 today, these two were in a tree nibbling on berries, they're such big beautiful birds. I also managed to snap some (blurry) photos as one of them flew away.

Lately I've been enjoying some relaxing downtime at home, it's especially nice since there are so many birds around to photograph. I've been quietly working on some new products that I'm pretty excited about launching very soon. Watch this space.
