South Island Trip Part 3 - Blumine Island

Hello! I’m still working my way through my photos from Blumine Island, oh so many photos! Especially Tomtits! I think I now have a lifetime of Tomtit photos. If you’ve been following along you’ll know about the day being cold and wet, Hannah and I had sheltered (cowered) under a tiny DOC sign until the rain eased a little, but decided since we’d come all the way out to the island that we should go for a walk. All in all it wasn’t too bad, yes it was raining, cold and slippery, but all along the way we heard hundreds of Bellbirds and Tui, and it kept us in good spirits. We made our way to a historic gun emplacement (finally some shelter) and sheltered there until it was time to head back to be picked up by the boat. On the way back we saw a juvenile Saddleback, which was really exciting, because the juveniles are quite different to the North Island ones, as they are a lovely uniform chocolate brown colouring. Here are some more photos from the day, and the most exciting photos are still yet to come…
