Fernbird in flax | Mātātā / fernbird | New Zealand bird illustration art print
This art print depicts a mātātā / fernbird perched on dried flax stems.
Mātātā / fernbirds are sneaky, well camouflaged birds that live in shrubs usually around wetlands. They are very hard to spot but if you’re patient enough to find one it’s worth it to see their incredibly beautiful patterned feathers. Their long scruffy tail trails behind them as they scurry through their habitat and they make high pitched tick -like calls occasionally. Wetland clearance meant these birds lost a lot of places where they could live but they thrive on predator free islands.
This art print is based on an original hand-painted gouache artwork. Each print is created with long-lasting matte pigment inks on textured, high quality archival 100% cotton rag paper.
