This art print depicts a pair of red-crowned parakeets, also known as kākāriki.

These chatty birds love munching on fruits and seeds in native forests. They’re beautiful and bright but are so well camouflaged in the forest, their red colouring even matches the coprosma berries that they like so much. Kākāriki nest in tree cavities and raise large clutches of adorable parrot chicks, this puts them in a risky position when introduced pests come along so they’re fairly rare on the mainland and only thrive in pest free areas like sanctuaries and predator free islands.

This art print is based on an original hand-painted gouache artwork. Each print is created with long-lasting matte pigment inks on textured, high quality archival 100% cotton rag paper.
